Before we tell you about all that we have planned for 2024, it is important to go through the projects we have accomplished in 2023.
Behind every success we can celebrate is not just the commitment and passion of a small group of people but especially the participation of each one of you! Those who follow us every day on social by interact and share our content. Long-distance adopters. Those who have activated a regular donation to stand by us month after month and those who donate whenever they can. Who participates in our events and open days. Those who buy from our solidarity shop. Those who chose us for wedding favors and special gifts.
You are an integral part of every small and big milestone we have achieved in 2023!
Different stories and unique personalities: those of the many animals we welcomed in 2023.
Fighting alongside the protagonists of these stories, we wrote a new chapter that like a short-circuit in a system where oppression and violence are normalized, forever changed the ending they were destined for.
Month after month we welcomed calves, lambs, sheep, goats, rabbits, and birds of all species. Many of them were destined for slaughter, others came from seizures made by the local health authorities at irregular farms.
It has been a year of great growth for the Capra Libera Tutti Sanctuary! The expansion on the new land has given us not only more space for the animals but so much more to devise and build long-term projects.
As old and new goals are consolidated, ambitions and responsibilities also increase, pushing us to structure, specialize, and multiply our areas of intervention.
We aim to make this place better and better, but we are deeply aware of the urgency of increasing our impact outside of the physical borders of this place as well.
Educational projects enable us to cross over the physical boundaries of this place and have an impact on the human society around us.
In 2023 we were inside schools and brought classes here at the Sanctuary among the free animals.
We have participated in educational projects with institutions of different levels and collaborated in the writing of dissertations, dialoguing with students from film schools, faculties of political science, architecture and urban planning, law, and digital communication.
A book (still only in Italian) with many protagonists: the inhabitants of the Capra Libera Tutti Sanctuary! Individuals who regained their freedom and the possibility of self-determination!
We wanted a book that from the shelves of bookstores could also speak to all those people who have never been here yet and who have never wondered about the possibility of meeting other animals and finally getting to know them from a different point of view.
We made a podcast that will be released on January 9!
This year we participated again in the educational exchange program proposed by Doctors in Italy that involved veterinary students from different parts of the world.
Through field classes and shadowing in our daily care activities, the veterinarians of the future have gained firsthand experience of an equal relationship with other animals, far removed from the profit-driven logic to which veterinary theory and practice are often oriented.
Innovative awareness that no course of study offers and that we hope will bring a seed of change to their future job.
We have created a strong, welcoming, and supportive multispecies community.
We broke down barriers, broke down prejudices, created an inclusive culture, and valued diversity!
We have started an ongoing volunteer project together with Colle Cesarano, a facility that welcomes and accompanies people with psychiatric disorders through various social welfare and therapeutic pathways.
Through the RomAltruista platform, many new volunteers participate in our care and welcoming activities by joining us in organizing events and open days for the public.
Thanks to the meeting with the Italian Hindu Union in 2023, we achieved another great goal: the construction of a new large barn dedicated to the horses! A success that was made possible thanks to the 8×1000 funds raised last year by the association.
In adjustment to the biosecurity rules imposed to control the spread of African Swine Fever, we too were forced to erect a new fence for the pigs. We don’t like to build barriers within our land, but in this case, we had to compromise by demarcating an area of about 10,000 square meters thanks to the support of LAV Rome. Examples of solidarity that are helping us defend the serenity of these animals and all those we will welcome in the future.
We organized more than 30 events during which we welcomed thousands of people.
The purchase of the new land has allowed us to expand and welcome new animals and give them back the space they deserve, but also to create a real place for meeting, culture, and education, with an increasing impact on the surrounding humane society.
In 2023 our events area was the stage for workshops, lectures, concerts, theater performances, show cooking, presentations, and debates.
With the support of some friendly brands, we promote a concrete change in the food system based on animal exploitation.
At our events, we offer tasty 100% plant-based alternatives and spread curiosity and awareness about a more just and sustainable diet!
There are many ways in which we can cooperate, raise awareness, take concrete actions, and pursue short- and long-term projects.
Several companies have already entered into synergy with our reality, and some of them have decided to allocate a percentage of their proceeds to support the Capra Libera Tutti Sanctuary!
It was September 20, 2023, the day institutions violently raided the Progetto Cuori Liberi sanctuary in Pavia, using force to suppress dissent and kill Crosta, Freedom, Crusca, Pumba, Dorothy, Mercoledì, Bartolomeo, Ursula, Carolina, and Spino.
9 pigs were murdered in a sanctuary, with the sole purpose of defending the profits of the animal farming industry.
From that day one thing is certain: nothing will ever be the same again!
All of you have stood by us and helped us spread an important message: animal sanctuaries exist, resist, and need proper legal recognition.
Tens of thousands of people took to the streets in Rome and Milan to demand laws and protections for free animals!
Thanks to an unprecedented mobilization promoted and organized by the network of sanctuaries in Italy, institutions were forced to listen to our anger and pain.
We are negotiating with the Ministry of Health to receive a framework that will finally differentiate us from farms and forever secure the lives of animals freed from animal farming violence.
Your solidarity and participation have enabled us so far to keep our attention high on an episode that we will never forget, and which constitutes a very serious precursor, a threat and a danger to the free existence of all the animals that inhabit Italian sanctuaries.
