The Joker Brothers

Dumb ducks are unique animals that are extremely sociable and communicative.

And you would never expect it, but they are also among the most exploited species!

Indeed, through several generations of genetic crossbreeding, breeders have selected the most suitable characteristics for the production of foie gras, such as the size of the liver, its ability to accumulate fat, and – truly disturbing detail – the tolerance and resistance of these animals to the practice of “gavage,” the force-feeding on which this cruel production is based.

In Italy – although, unfortunately, its sale is allowed – the production of foie gras is banned, but dumb ducks are equally used for meat and egg production on an intensive scale.

The Joker Brothers come right from a farm that functions as a source of animals to be fattened and exploited for a lifetime for other large and small farms.

The two ducks, luckier than average, had been purchased there by a family who kept them in the garden, more for a company than anything else.

Therefore, this is not a classic life-or-death story, but it is a story about freedom of expression!

Without skirting around it too much, you must know that not long after buying them, the owners realized that these two were going at it hard!

Yes, just in that sense.

The owners were afraid that this was not normal and pinning such behavior more on the absence of females. Concerned, they contacted the Capra Libera Tutti Sanctuary to find the two youngsters a place where they could meet mates of the opposite sex and calm down.

Ah l’amour! The charisma and charm of these two individuals seem truly irresistible!

And it is not by love alone that ducks live.

The Joker Brothers have formed a wonderful bond of friendship and complicity with the Batman Brothers from the very beginning, with whom they chat and play all day long.

Besides being extremely sociable with other animals, they are also very communicative with humans. It might surprise you, but they are always looking for caresses, running toward us, and seeking companionship and interaction.

They express themselves through singular vocalizations, different from all other birds.

A characteristic that has earned this species a designation by subtraction, as if their diversity represented a lack. But this reminds us every day that all animals have a voice, even ducks referred to as “dumb.”
