Gatta Allegra

Gatta Allegra (Happy Cat in English) was abandoned in a carrier on a cold winter night just outside the gate of the Capra Libera Tutti Sanctuary.

Without a message, without a phone call, without an explanation. We found her out there alone and scared.

To thus leave an animal to the elements in an open country, moreover locked in a cage and therefore defenseless is irresponsible, dangerous, and cruel.

We immediately took care of her, vaccinated her, and got her back on her feet.

Slowly we got to know her, and at first, we called her Gatta Matta (Mad Cat in English) because of certain behaviors that we could not decipher.

Today she lives together with many other cats who live here, and she occasionally gets lost in her own world exploring new horizons and playing hide-and-seek.

We search for her for hours until we find that she has made a new kennel for herself in some loft, inside some box, behind some piece of furniture, or who knows where.

We have learned her favorite hiding places, so we leave the doors open so that she is not afraid and feels free to be where she likes.

And we know that all animals – as well as human beings! – are different and have the right to express their personalities and fulfill their needs without having to please our expectations.

This is how Gatta Matta was renamed Gatta Allegra, a name that suits her much better because it highlights her uniqueness!
